The contributors to this book, ranging in age from 20 to 80 and sharing a deep a connection to their homeland, chose to write in English, the language of Vanautu’s colonisers. The dearth of published literature from this country does not reflect the number of islanders writing creatively to offer a glimpse of their world. The mix of genres collected here encompasses contemporary, historical and non-fiction, engaging with important issues such as colonialism, racism and misogyny, while also expressing hope for the future.
