Awu’s Story
by Justine Mintsa

This compelling story, giving a distressing account of a journey to hospital as 12-year-old Ada is about to give birth, will haunt any woman approaching her final hours of going into labour. Author and campaigner Justine Mintsa originally had no intention of publishing her writing, but she has gone on to be a very important figure in African literature as well as Gabonese history. Her country is one of very few in the world where the first novelist to be published was female.
