Polynesia
Baskets in Polynesia
by Wendy Arbeit
Baskets have played an integral part in traditional everyday life in Polynesia for centuries, but the craft is now in severe decline. Early anthropologists took little notice of the techniques and, due to the fragile and short-lived nature of the baskets, little has survived of them. This inspiring book records the dying techniques of leaf plaiting and the wonderful variety of beautiful, useful baskets in words and pictures.
