Papua New Guinea

P

Four Corners
by Kira Salak

This book, the most recent of the very few publications from Papua New Guinea, gives an outsider's view of the country. Author and journalist Kira Salak was the first woman to travel, on foot and by canoe, across the island. Meeting local tribes, separatist guerrillas and missionaries along the way, she risked illness and attack as she single-handedly crossed leech- and mosquito-infested swamps, hacked her way through the jungle and scaled mountains – as well as to having to face her own demons.
