O

Celestial Bodies
by Jokha Alharthi

This imaginative epic story populated with spirited characters and actual spirits was born out of Jokha Alharthi’s longing for her home country. Although she is fluent in English, this novel, written in faraway Scotland, was written in Arabic, in response to the homesickness that she was suffering. The author is the first from Oman to be translated into English, and this book was the first from an Arab country to win the Booker Prize.
