Born in Liege 1906, Madeleine Bourdouxhe gave birth on the day Germany invaded Brussels, and gives a description of her escape to France in this book of short stories. Madeleine continued to write throughout her life. She was ‘rediscovered’ in the mid-1980s and in 2009 a conference in France celebrated her life and work.
